Athlete Retirements

Guidance for registered testing pool athletes retiring from or returning to competition.

Plan with confidence

Retirement is a formal anti-doping step

Athletes in a Registered Testing Pool must give written notice before leaving the pool. Temporary inactivity is not retirement and does not end whereabouts or testing obligations.

01 · Notify

Send written notice

Email FIG/ITA at fig@ita.sport and copy your National Anti-Doping Organisation.

02 · Confirm

Wait for acknowledgement

Retirement takes effect when your written notice is received and your licence and RTP status can be updated.

03 · Return safely

Notify before competing

Give return-to-competition notice and expect a minimum six-month period back in the RTP before returning.

Important: temporary inactivity is different

Injury, study, travel or a competition break does not remove an athlete from testing obligations. Keep whereabouts information current unless formal retirement is confirmed.
